SafetyText is wholly managed by The Lucie Blackman Trust. Text messaging infrastructure is provided by one of the UK's leading mobile telecommunications companies, who also provide SMS systems to the emergency services. SafetyText is such a valuable service but why isn't it free? Unfortunately we are charged by mobile phone networks to send out the text messages involved in a SafetyText. The Lucie Blackman Trust makes no profit from this service. In the future, we hope to gain support and sponsorship in order to offer SafetyText for free. Your 25p goes straight to mobile phone networks providers in order to facilitate the sending of messages. Your network provider will charge you your standard SMS rate for the set up message. Where does my SafetyText go before it gets delivered? All the details you send to 83010 are held on a secure server as used by the emergency services. These servers are totally secure and the Lucie Blackman Trust conforms to all data protection laws and legislation. Will my contact know what a SafetyText is? It is important that you let your contact know that you are nominating them to receive SafetyTexts. Try sending each other SafetyTexts so that you both understand the system and they will know what to expect. Who can view my information/SafetyText? The secure server which holds your information cannot be viewed by anyone. However, The Lucie Blackman Trust's Data Controller (who is registered under the Data Protection Act) receives copies of all information sent which would only be used if requested by the police in the event of an emergency. If you have any queries on this or wish to know any data held about you please email here. What if I/my contact has no signal? SafetyText is operated using the most advanced SMS technology available. However, it must be considered that like any system involving mobile phones it does rely on a network signal. If your contact is out of range at the time the SafetyText is triggered, our system will continue to attempt to send it until it has been delivered. Future developments will see multiple contacts, landline voice recorded messages and email message delivery. What should I do if I receive a SafetyText? The first thing you must do is to try and make contact with the sender. Try their mobile, their home and /or family in case they have simply forgotten to cancel the text. If you cannot raise them or are in any doubt whatsoever phone 999 immediately and calmly explain that you have received a SafetyText and give as much detail as possible. Stay on the line until told you may hang up. What happens if I am in trouble and I can't cancel my SafetyText? If a SafetyText is sent your contact will receive the details and should act as above. If neccessary the police will be called and they can request details from us and from the mobile networks which can help locate you. The old SafetyText had a reminder to cancel. Why doesn't this one? At this point in time, including a reminder text would push the cost of sending a SafetyText higher. Until we have sponsorship and support we are relying on you to remember to cancel. What happens if I forget to cancel but am safe? If you forget to cancel please phone your nominated contact and let them know you are safe. Hopefully on receiving your SafetyText your contact will have phoned you.
Why don't I get confirmation of changing my contacts? Sending a seperate confirmation text would again raise the cost of SafetyText. Our aim is to make the service as cheap as possible so that it is accessible to everyone. Instead of an extra confirmation text, we include your nominated contact's number in the text you receive after setting up a SafetyText., How do I keep my SafetyText secret in case I get in trouble? As soon as your Safety Text is set up and you have received confirmation you should delete both the confirmation text and the text you sent us from your outbox.
